This article outlines how to add Source Folders to exclude out of the Cure scope, for LinkFixer Advanced versions 7.0.1.580 or higher.

Source folders are where your files were located when they were inoculated. Specifying your source folders tells Cure where you do not want your inoculated links to point anymore.

If you migrated your inoculated files by moving them, and you have not made copies of them, you are already good to go. You don’t need to specify your source folders because they don’t exist anymore.

Recommendation: If you have copied (not moved) any of your inoculated files, we recommend you tell LinkFixer Advanced where you copied those files from, before you run Cure. Those are your source folders.

Source folders only apply to the Cure process. Subfolders of your source folders are automatically treated as source folders.

Cure knows:

  • Not to point links to files in your source folders.
  • To fix links to files in your source folders, even if the links are working. Cure ignores working links, except when they point to files in your source folders. (If Cure processed all working links, it would be very slow because it would waste time curing many links which do not need to be cured.)

It is not dangerous to run Cure without first designating your source folders. But source folders help Cure better understand and meet your needs.

Tip: An alternative to specifying your source folders is making it so no links to your pre-migration files still work before you run Cure. There are many ways to do this, but specifying source folders is usually a lot faster and easier.

Technical Detail: Cure Phase 1 (Scan) will report result code 5307 for links (working or broken) pointing to files in your source folders.

UI path:

  • {☰} Main Menu | Settings | Cure | Source Folders

Preparation:

  1. Know the source folder locations of already Inoculated data.
  2. Add the source folder locations of already Inoculated data by clicking the {Add} button under Source Folders.
  3. Alternatively, a text (*.txt) file can be created with a list of all source folder locations, separated by a new line, as an import file. Click the {Import} button to import the saved import file.
Note: An option to know the source folder location(s) is to export the Inoculation folder selection under "Main menu | Inoculate | Select Folders." The folder selection can be exported into a text (*.txt) file, by clicking the {Export...} button, and imported under Source Folders.
  4. Once the source folder locations have been added under Source Folders, Cure can now be run. Cure will exclude the defined source folder locations outside of the Cure scope, and will only Cure links from parent files within the defined Cure Select Folders scope, as well as links pointing to child files outside the Cure Select Folders scope, excluding the source folders defined under Source Folders.
