Does LinkFixer Advanced expose the content of my parent and child files to third parties?

No. Absolutely not. LinkFixer Advanced interacts with parent and child files in three places:

  • The location they are already stored.
  • The location you ask LinkFixer Advanced to move them to (if using Move/Rename).
  • Temporary folders on the computers you run LinkFixer Advanced from.

LinkTek has no access to your parent and child files unless you send them to us for analysis.

Does the LinkFixer Advanced database contain copies of my parent and child files?

No. Absolutely not. The database does not contain copies of your files and the database is completely under your control at all times. This database runs on your computers, not on computers controlled by LinkTek.

The purpose of the LinkFixer Advanced database is to store information which will markedly improve processing speed during your migration projects. For example:

  • Links
  • Filenames
  • File paths
  • File modification dates
  • Link IDs
  • File IDs
  • File checksums

Can LinkTek read our LinkFixer Advanced database?

No. LinkTek has no access to your database. It is stored on your own database server (if using SQL Server) or on the computer you run LinkFixer Advanced on (if using SQLite for a trial/evaluation).

Where does LinkFixer Advanced store our username and password for connecting to SQL Server? Is the password encrypted?

Both the username and password field values for your SQL Server connection are stored in the LinkFixer Advanced settings file (“C:\Users\Public\Desktop\LinkFixer Advanced\Settings\LinkFixer User Settings.xml”). 

The username field value is stored as plain text.

The password field value is encrypted using AES 256-bit encryption.

Where does LinkFixer Advanced store SharePoint and Office 365 authentication credentials? Are these passwords encrypted?

Both username/password authentication and Office 365 authentication credentials are stored in the LinkFixer Advanced settings file (“C:\Users\Public\Desktop\LinkFixer Advanced\Settings\LinkFixer User Settings.xml”).

The username field value for both authentication methods is stored as plain text.

The password field value for username/password authentication is encrypted using AES 256-bit encryption.

The password field value for Office 365 authentication is never known by LinkFixer Advanced and, therefore, can never be stored by us in the clear. The Office 365 authentication option creates a local cache of access tokens which are stored in an encrypted file (using Triple-DES) in the folder “C:\ProgramData\LinkTek\LinkFixer Advanced\”. In SharePoint, these token files have the file name pattern "AzureAdTokenCache_TenantName.sharepoint.com.dat". In OneDrive, these token files have the file name pattern "AzureAdTokenCache_TenantName-my.sharepoint.com.dat".
